Clifford 50.7X security system.

Post  coryl on Sat Oct 10, 2009 1:07 pm

I must have gotten distracted when you asked me about the price for this system,at the M&M meet yesterday.
It's the Clifford 50.7X system. Cost was $850 for the system and install at the dealership. Costly, but I needed it done right as often there are many problems with these security systems...I just had the security system removed from my Sebring, as it was screwing-up the electric locks and going off "lights flashing" for a few secs each time I started the car and even blew a fuse which left me stranded. Having it done at the dealership, they gave me the 3-year new car warranty on the system (Clifford and install), when normally everywhere else the system (parts/labour) would only be warrantied for a year. Also if there were any screw-ups in the electrical system of the car afterwards, they would cover everything. On top of what's listed below, they put in the tilt sensor, so no one is going to tow that car without me being paged which is really good feature considering it is a car stollen frequently! The installer also put in a rust module I had purchased (from Canadian tire)...yes I know what they say about the rust modules, but I got it for $200 on sale, so it was just an added protection in my thinking, *if* this kind of technology works...let's see. The cost of the Clifford system install also included the donar key from another vehicle for the autostart...you don't want to use one of your own fast keys to do the install in the car, or someone can just drive away with it after you autostart it...as you saw with mine yesterday (M&M meet), I needed the fast key on me to open the doors after the car was started. You also don't want to be without a second fast key either. The main remote on this Clifford is rechargeable. The system is going to be nice in the winter with the autostart...I will have the car defrosted and the seats warm before I get in, so bring on winter!... cheers

Nice one !

I got a 1 way on mine came with the winter tires... But for some reason I can't get the car to start and it pisses me off ! I do whatever they say in the instruction manual, but the car starts the first time, then I do a little run, park in front of the house and it's not working anymore.

It does try to start but does not start... Don't know if you know what I mean, like if I was turning the key but not holding it long enough for the car to start...

Who installed it, and what kind is it? Obviously some loose connection, bad wires, or incorrect wiring...best to get it looked at before it starts to cause more problems. On my other security system/ remote start on my 98 Sebring, it started causing the car to set off the alarm for a few seconds when I started it (lights would start flashing), then it started blowing fuses, and then it started screwing up my electric locks (they stopped working). I was told that there was a problem with the wiring, yet it worked wonderfully for the first 1.5 years until it started the snowballing screw-ups. I had the entire thing ripped-out as it was going to fry something soon (ie, electric locks)...since removal, the electric locks work now, and I no longer look like I'm stealing my own car...So get it looked at, as you don't want any issues with your starter and shorts there. No It's such a PITA when security/autostart systems malfunction, and it is very common...make sure you have a good one, yet that is never a guarantee either....good luck and let me know the outcome...and where were you at the M&M meet? I wanted to see your Octane blue color.

Well everything is working perfectly fine lock, unlock, trunk and panic... But the car does not start.

Its a Fortin and my dealer installed it when I bought the car...

The auto-start of the clifford sounds awesome

Especially with the remote temperature so you know when the car is nice and toasty.

They have a new model that will be coming in the next few months, and that will have a feature on it that can self adjust the internal temp of the car...mostly will be used by police, etc, who have dogs in their vehicles while they leave it running...for the rest of us it's not really needed, and the cost will be quite a bit higher so why waste money on the "new version". We also have adjustable temp settings in our cars already which keeps the internal temp at what we want anyways, so it would be almost a waste of $'s for us. Clifford also has another model identical to this one I have, but it has a color LCD on it...lots of $'s, and I'm told that the remote needs recharging frequently, although it's interesting as it shows pictures of "a" car with the hood up, whereas mine is just a written, "hood", etc, if that's the concern. The prices are coming down for this Clifford that I have, so might be worth it to buy it at this decreasing price if you're considering a remote starter/security system...I know your girlfriend needs this! I also know you like to fiddle around and install things, but this might be a hard install...if you need to look mine over to see where everything is placed that would be no problem, and maybe you can save a few bucks, rather than forking out the extra $'s...I know you have your own car so you won't try and take mine...lol.

I also love the idea that I will be paged if anyone tries to tow my car...legally or not. The dual stage shock sensors work wonderfully...slight hit to my tires/car/windows gives a warning, smash my window and the loud (you heard it) siren goes off. I also got the hood, trunk, and door sensors. And this Clifford is smart enough that if I open the trunk by remote (to drop in groceries), that it temporarily shuts off the shock sensors as you drop the trunk lid down, then reactivates the sensors afterwards. I feel the car is safe with this Clifford...and you are right, I will know when the temp of the car is where I want it to be before I head to my car on those cold winter days.

If the dealer installed it, then it is probably still under warranty if it's less than three years old under the new car warranty...even if it's not, they gave you the system and then they installed it so they should fix the problem at a fair price (fair in my mind would be close to free)...I had my airconditioning system fixed at a dealership many years ago on my car and it wasn't cheap...the following summer it failed (warranty on airconditioning repairs was only 3 months, yet I had actually only used the system for less than that due to winter)...I contacted them and complained that this should not have failed so soon, and then wrote a letter to the head office when they told me they would not do anything about it and said they couldn't even touch the system again because of the new gov airconditioning laws...the day after I sent the e-mail to their head office, I got a call from the manager of the dealership who then personally looked after me...they gave me an amazing deal on a brand new system.

Shooting for March 2010, right now I'm saving money to pay it in cash. In Feb. I'll look for some good deals on EvoM and hopefully during March break I'll check one or two out that I'm interested in. With a little luck I'll find the one I want at that point and just need a broker/dealer to bring it up here for me cheers

Speaking of which, does anyone know of any brokers/dealers in the area that would import a IX?

Might pay a bit more from a used car dealer, but at least you get to look it over first ...especially with the battering these cars take sometimes. At least buy close accross the border, so you can take a trip over and go get it evaluated. Don't want to see you get ripped off on what should be a happy day...remember, carfax is for those who make claims...so doesn't mean too much anyways!
I bought a car locally from a guy a long time ago...before the days of carfax and before people had to worry too much about other people ripping people off. The guy had a big picture of 'Jesus' in his front entrance and little kids running around upstairs. It was a sunday and I needed the car ASAP for work and there was no place to evaluate the engine (checked out what I could, and everything else looked ok), so took him at his word that he had bought the car from a friend a year ago here in Canada...big mistake!!!!! Got home and started vacuuming the car...sucked up a piece of paper from under the seat...OMG, shock...the guy had purchased this car from salvage wreckage yard in the U.S. a few months previous. I rushed the car into a mechanic who analyzed the engine...bad news...cracked block, car running on a few cylinders, "CAM IN BACKWARDS?????"...cost to me would be a new engine...it was then that I noticed the slight color differences in the panels, etc. The mechanic told me to turn around and sell the car, which I just couldn't in good conscience do. Got a new engine and drove the car without any other issues. Funny, but it was a 4-door, yet registered as a hatchback.

BUYER BEWARE! And never buy a car from a guy with a picture of Jesus in their front entrance! No

No matter where I'm buying from, I'm going to check it out first, most likely take a flight down for a day or 2. I've compiled my own little list of things to check before buying from a bunch of threads on EvoM, and I'll surely find more stuff to add in the next 6 months Wink

We're on your side! Post your list when it's completed...everyone here may have some additional suggestions. No one can think of everything... Very Happy
