rear brake problem
hi guys
I have a small problem on my outie 2007 (33000km)...
the rear brake caliper on the driver side wont release the disc brake...
I noticed yesterday an awful noise from the back when I was rolling, I thought it could be a rock stuck in a caliper or a wheel bearing.
this morning I dismantle the rear wheel, well first hint of a problem, the rear wheel on the driver side is covered with brake dust.
then I say that the brake pads where really closed on the disc brake, tried to remove the brake caliper...it is stuck to the disc. And no I never use the handbrake, or very rarely if I am parking on a slope.
Anything I can do until I have an appointment to the dealer ?
thanks!
Pat

All I can think is that you might need to push the piston back a little to free up the pad here's a video on the internet on how to don't know if that will help you !

Re: rear brake problem
well just came back from the dealer....
brand new rear brakes and 400$ less in my wallet
and an afternoon loss
can you believe that the rear brakes (disc and pad) were toast after 33,000 km..half of that is highway. i expected a set of pads since the rear brake on the driver side was dragging for a few days but the disc were a complete surprise....also the fact that nothing went under warranty. I am someone that is really gentle on brakes, on my WRX I changed them after 70,000km and I could have kept the rear ones.
I still do not know what the problem was
I was told rust and calcium made the rear caliper freeze (or the pads)...anyway that feels like complete bullshit to me. I wont tell names, but let say that guy is just a real moron. I would have prefer him to tell me he did not know than receive that kind of crap.
While I was there they were installing a HID kit on an outlander, it was flickering like hell on the daylights, I told them they needed a another capacitor to make it work...... well they continue to scratch their heads and read the instructions. I am sure they convinced the owner (an old guy about 60-65) that it was normal.
anyway I took my pill, let just hope that it doesnt happen again in the next 30,000km.

Rally Mitsu....
dont get me wrong, I love the car, but the service is nowhere near what it should be. They are more worried about getting new cars out of the garage then satisfying their customer.
If I had skipped the services at any of my 6000km I would have said nothing, it would be my fault, but there was a 24,000 full service done just before the winter and brakes are on that. How comes ther are completely done 6000km after ? And how can it be normal that the rear brake starts to drag like this.
sorry I needed some venting

Yeah, I have had some problems also with them... And I have the same impression.. Getting the news ones out ASAP! héhé..
For your breaks, it's very wierd indeed.. To have then seized up like that, and because of rust?? kinda far fetched!
I hope your next meetings go better.. and Mine also! héhé

Re: rear brake problem
WOW that's not normal at all Pat ! Like you know we have the same XLS and mine is fine and I have plenty of wear left on my rear brake too and I have 28 800km on it ! As far as rallye mitsu goes I agree with you I went there once to get and alignment done as I was short in time and was not able to go to Bank street mitsu (by the way great service their they know their stuff) I got the outlander and it was pulling even worst to the right got back right after and they guy at first was trying to blame it on me until I grabbed one of the tech and I told him to come for a drive with and then He realized that it was way wrong ! Any just to say that I was not impress at all with the service department there !!!

Thanks for the support! I would go to bank st., but it is not very convenient for me, but I will think about it next time. Also dealer who did not sell you the car usually are reticent to do warranty stuff on another car since it goes in their numbers. I am not saying Bank street is like that, but usually they prefer you to go to your dealer.
The more I think about it the more I think I should write to Mitsu Canada about the bad service.
it will probably do nothing, but at least it will help me vent my frustration and maybe the great Operation Manager at Rally mitsu will get a call....
let's erase that stupid face from my memory

I know what you mean about the location of Bank street it's not convenient for me too takes me 35+ min to get there each time!
I heard that too that some time when you did not bought the car there they are more reticent about warranty stuff ! I don't know either if bank street like that but my outlander is there now and I will ask tonight when I go to pick up my truck the service and part manager are good friends ! I will let you know !
I think that could be good to right a lettre to Mitsu Canada does not cost anything to try !

hahaha funny about trying to get his face out of your head...
with my problem, I had to call the GM and tell him about how my problem was being handled. A couple of days later, I got a call from the service manager and he sayd everything would be allright, and he would fix my car! haha...

Re: rear brake problem
Well guess what the problem is back!!!
I am so mad! The real wheel on the driver side is covered with brake dust almost black... I thought first it was the break in of the pads doing this...but now the noise is back which means I have been runing for over a month now with the rear brakes rubbing...
I have an appointment thursday and I told them I want the problem fixed and my 400$ back! this is far from being normal wear!
better not be any customer in the showroom!
What pissed me the most is that I have to take another half day off to go see that bunch of incompetent morons.... also they have guts on the phone to question if I did all the services!!!! for god damn sake look at your fuc$%?& PC in front of you everything is there
and he tells me I did not do the 24000k one...I just did an oil change....I just became red on the phone and told him that at 250$ it is better be gold they put as oil.... he later realized he was not looking at the good one!
Well put your glasses on before accusing a customer!!! what a bunch of morons at Rallye Mitsu!
If it wasnt for the 400$ that I want back I would go to Bank St...
Will post with the results friday...

Re: rear brake problem
sorry for the lack of feedback..
apparently it was the hand brake that was adjusted too tight.....I said to myself whatever and I left (how could it be the handbrake, it's not even related)...but I was so pissed that I got my oil change free.... Anyway leaving the garage I knew the problem was not solved as I could hear the brake dragging on the disc...
so that was 1.5 week ago
well guess what I was at the dealer this morning because the left rear wheel is again all covered with brake dust and it smells like the brakes are burning... so I wait quietly to see what will be the answer this time and I watched the guy trying to turn the wheel by hand on the lift (it's not moving)...big satisfaction in my face at that point...he takes off the wheel....try to turn the disc, not moving...dismantle the caliper...disc is moving! Well I watched the discussion (not hearing anything behind the glass) between the guy and the service manager.... and I see them coming to me, I tell to myslef you better have a Fu%^& good reason this time to tell me it is normal!!!
so the verdict is that the caliper is toasted (well duh!!!!!! I told them the first time!!!!), they dont have any in stock, so I will need to go back next week... the director of the operations will be back from holidays and we will have a really nice discussion on my $400 dollars I paid the first time for the supposely normal problem I had, cannot wait for this discussion and I hope the garage is full at that time!! the service manager told me they will revised my files and should be able to do a compromise...... I laugh and told myself they will be no compromise, it is my $400 I want and will get it.
the soap continues next week!
