Noise

Post  Black_Clipse on Mon Jun 29, 2009 7:34 am

I'm getting a constant squeeking noise while I'm driving (not braking).
I'm wondering if the recent mod for my rim fitment issue might be the problem?

Here's what happened to the rim...

Last November, before I put the Clipse away for the winter, I took it out on the first snowfall . I took a corner a little quick and slipped into a median and bent the rim ever so slightly. I put it away for the winter after that night and when I took it out this April, a suspension overhaul was required (1500$ lesson learned). Problem is when they did the suspension overhaul, they could not balance the wheel because the rim was bent (again.. ever so slightly). I contacted Fast Wheel, the wheel manufacturer, and they told me that wheel was discontinued shortly after I bought them in June 2008.
I went to my mechanic and he said he knew the owner of Fast Wheels and would try and figure something out.
The decision was made to take the same wheel in a different bolt-pattern and machine it to fit (I really liked my rims and didn't want to buy a new set Cool ). To make it fit, it had to be machined to be hub centric as opposed to the others which are lug centric (I'm 99% pretty sure).

I don't know what else might cause the noise... any ideas?

My first guess would be a wheel bearing... but I'd have to hear it. If you jack up the front of the car and shake the wheels around do you have any play, even slight?
