Nearly 7,000 2008-2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Ralliart, and Sportback Ralliart models recalled over fuel pipe crack concerns
The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall of potentially 6,903 Lancer Evolution, Ralliart, and Sportback Ralliart vehicles fitted with 2.0-liter turbocharged engines falling between model year 2008 and 2009. According to the report, running the engine at certain speeds over time may cause a damaging vibration that could lead to a stress crack in the fuel pipe (the fuel return pipe is apparently improperly attached to the engine). If a crack does develop, the resulting fuel leakage could cause a fire.
Dealers will be instructed to replace the fuel pipe with a new component and add two new additional attachment brackets to lessen the effects of vibration. Of course, all of this work will be performed free of charge. Owners of the recalled Mitsubishi vehicles may contact the manufacturer at 1-888-648-7820, contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov regarding campaign ID 09V349000.

lets not even talk about some Evo owners with the faulty fuel pump relay not switching to high voltage causing the Evo to run super lean and eventually causing the engine to go kaboom.
No recall for that issue yet

The black smoke doesn't have to do with the faulty relay
The black smoke is unburnt gas going out the tailpipe because the Evo runs SO ridiculously rich from the factory. We're talking under 10 A/F
If the smoke coming out the back was white, then you'd be in some serious trouble

The fuel relay issue isn't a recall. It has happened to a fair amount of people on the evoxforums.

Yea that's probably me. Like stated, that's just the way the evos come.
I talked the my dealership last weekend about all the recalls. I asked about the relay and wanted to see if they could look into it. They just told me people online just worry too much. Not very helpful. I guess when my engine detonates, I can say I told you so.

I had an Escort GT where the front end started on fire while it was just sitting in my garage...Ford new about the problem yet didn't do any recalls due to it being "rare", and they kept it hushed and just changed the next years models...so it's only rare until it happens to you.

New recall
Just in the dealership today... Looks like there is a new recall on the Lancers front impact sensor. They also had a notice on the ralliarts awc so that it doesn't fall into overdrive.
Not much more info than that.
Get yours checked
