Rally Armor Mudflaps

Post  Gillette on Thu Nov 04, 2010 1:47 pm

Just got mine and installed them last night... I must say the "toolless, easy" installation was complete bullshit. Definitely needed a drill to get the anchors in for mounting point #4 on the front, it's also basically impossible to get the screw fully tightened for the very bottom mounting point on the rear flaps.

Overall a cool product but the installation instructions were clearly written by someone who had never actually tried doing the installation themselves... Maybe this was easier on an '08 (which it was written for) but it's a tremendous pain on the '10 model which should be exactly the same bodywise.

Hopefully I'm not the only person that ran into these problems...

That's odd, installation was ridiculously easy on my Evo IX and the instructions were spot on.

The instructions were relatively accurate apart from one bit where it says to put a 1/4" plastic anchor through a 1/16" hole in the plastic lining in the wheel well. It must be drilled in order to work. The fitment for the bottom screws on the rear flaps is also pretty bogus, it will hit the wheel well very quickly which again prevents the screw from going in tightly without another hole being drilled.

After looking at all the flaps and speaking to the other girls on another site about what they had used on their cars and what they liked, and also people's opinions on this site, I decided on the Rally Armor and they are supposed to be here any day now...let's see if the install is easy for my 2008 Evo X....I've watched the install video and so far it looks like a fairly easy install. I'm just praying that the red flaps with white writing on my PB Evo won't create any more police interest yet the seller says it makes a "bold statement"...the girls tell me to go with the red flaps, as the police tail my Evo regardless...lol.
I'll keep you posted on my opinion of quality.

As Raptord said, they're excellent, my only real complaint has been the installation.

Honestly if you've got jack stands... take off your rear tires before you try the install, it will save you lots of hand cramps and headaches.

I believe they had the wheels off in the video...maybe that's why it appeared so simple. I actually looked for jack stands last week at Canadian tire...have been waiting for them to go on-sale and of course it never is when I want something.

I took off all 4 wheels when I did mine, gives you good room to work at the cost of taking a bit longer.

SO I have a bone to pick with these Rally Armor flaps (yes im going on a full our rant cause me and Coryl froze our butts off getting these on)...i speak on behalf of Coryl and I....first I would like to say that they look awesome....2nd the process of gettin these bloody things on was F'ing retarded....the instrutions were ludacris and the junk they gave us for the flap installation like the screws and s**t were barely the right size....Coryl and I spend nearly 3 hours gettin these things on...and thats only ONE car....the Evo alignment for the L joint wasnt right...its too bloody small...like wth were they thinking when they made these instructions....HONESTLY.... I could POOP out better instructions...did they give the job to a child or something cause like really...WOW is all we have to say...Chuck here...i dont kno how you got your back flaps on without taking your tires off...like there is NO WAY you got a screw driver THAT small into a gap THAT tiny...unless you used the one in your pants...then i understand lol! mind you we didnt have to take the tires off because we used super improvision and used plyers instead....were so smart...the front flaps were easy...those took like maybe 20 mins each....not even...the back flaps....RE-TAR-DED....like getting the bottom clip that connects the lower portion of the liner to the rear of the bumper was SOOOO HARD>>>>>> I cannot fathom how hard it was to get that clip off.....we broke one of the clips off cause we had no choice....and the clips they give us are the worst designed clips ever known to man kind....seriously...the instructions were SO wrong it was jokes...every other line it would tell us to NOT OVER TIGHTEN but half way through getting these bloody flaps on....we began to question their logic and tightened them anyways cause hells we gave up on the instructions and improvised and totally worked out better...After the long and cold journey infront on coryls house....our fingers and toes are SOOOO cold....we didnt expect it would take that long....we started at like 8? ended like 12 >_> BLASPHEMY I TELL YOU....Chuck you must be a liar or something cause you are going to help us with the Evo .....were gonna need your "special tool" biglol yes the in one in your pants....Enkryptor u suck for totally not helping LOL but i still love you LOL but yes...the instructions and whole process of getting these flaps on can go straight to hell..... WORST EVER!!!! I will be posting pics soon and a little video of us lighting the instructions on fire...that is all for now....i might rant on this topic abit more when my hands move more efficiently tonight....
