Strange "Ticking" noise while accelerating

Post  MacScorpio on Tue Nov 09, 2010 4:40 pm

So funny thing.... My 2009 ralliart is making a ticking noise while accelerating. It doesnt matter if its in a straight line or going around a turn. The noise persits mainly from a stop start acceleration. I only hear it in 1st gear, although it might be present through the higher gears... cant really tell over the sound of the engine.

I ONLY use high octane gas, I just did a full brake servicing and aside from the noise, the car is running perfect. the problem has been going on for some time now.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Suggestions as to the route cause?

Is it loud enough that you can record it on video and we'd be able to hear it?

I'll certainly try to record it. Don't think it's loud enough.

Probably a chipped tooth and you'll probably need transmission work if it's only in first and the rest of the car is running good. I think your car may be fairly new and may be warrantied if you fight hard enough and that it's 'been there since you bought it', but I'm 99.9% sure they will try and say that you did the damage by improper shifting and grinding of the gears. I've driven standard most of my life except for my last two cars...make sure you fully engage the clutch and that the car is in in gear before letting go of the clutch. I would say fight hard as tranny repairs won't be cheap. You can always accelerate in second if the first gear goes and you can't afford the work at this time, but....
