backup camera for the Evo almost done
Picked up an ebay special camera ($25 bux shipped from Korea) - It's a decent camera and it even has night vision which is $$.
Getting to the MMCS is a pain in the ass but good thing I had the service manual with clear instructions on how to pull stuff apart.
Had some trouble with connecting the backup camera I bought on ebay to the MMCS system but I found another howto which clarified my issue.
Apparently the first how-to I was using was missing a ground. It only said to use 2 pins -
Pin 3 - video
Pin 6 - mmcs camera detection/ground
Apparently you have to tie pin 5 and pin 6 together and then everything
works beautifully. I verified and now i've started to run the wire
down the side of the car towards the back.
I've made it to the back seat and closed up all the panels behind me.
I'm hoping I can fish the wire to the trunk without having to take
apart the back seat.
Sadly because I want to put the camera by my license plate, that's
going to require some bumper removal which will probably not be fun.
Anyway, progress is being made.
Once I get the wire to where I need it to go, then i'll worry about tapping the backup lights to power the camera, then I gotta decide how i'm going to mount the camera then it'll all be done.
Phew.

Had to take the bumper off which was tedious
Also had to take off my mudguards
tapped the power source from the reverse lights and it's now sticking out the bumper
The video cable is now sticking out the bumper
Just need to finalize how and where i'm going to mount the actual camera and then I can put everything back together

Ya that's what I liked about it.
I HATED the oem position of the backup camera (right in the middle of the trunk). This is a bit more stealthy

Oh god, OEM install looks horrible. Ruins the otherwise clean look of the Lancer rear.
