Rust Proofing

Post  ctoast on Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:35 am

Can anyone recommend a good place to go for rust protection? I'm still trying to decide between Krown and Rust Check... without drilling in either case.

Hey there!

Feel free to PM, e-mail, or call us directly (613-830-3130) and we will be more than happy to discuss what we offer in terms of Rust-Protection. As many on the forum are aware, we are an official RustCheck dealer. The main difference between Krown and RustCheck is that we offer a superior rust inhibitor fluid formula (not just a bunch of oil that seems to get sprayed everywhere and on everything - except the vehicle), in addition to what we call 'coat & protect' which is a secondary product (it is a PREMIUM NON-DRIP clear, gel-like product that will not dry out and crack/fall apart like waxes/tars, etc) which is applied to the underside of the vehicle. The major advantage to this is that it eliminates the possibility of the product 'washing off' like most of the 'oil-spray' products that are out there in the market place. In addition, for NCMC members we have a group buy on right now (which most of you are aware of I believe...?), which includes: complete 2-step premium RustCheck treatment, basic car cleaning package [clean windows/dash, vacuum, exterior wash/dry, tire dressing], and a FREE 180g can of RustCheck inhibitor fluid. You also get a lifetime warranty if your vehicle is 3 years or NEWER, provided you have your vehicle treated annually.

I'm wanting the rustcheck done this year on my 1998 Sebring...I used Krown every year on the Sebring (maybe missed one year) and I've had rust problems and had to repair panels. As far as I'm concerned, Krown doesn't work, and I won't go with them again.
Do I need to book an appointment for the Sebring, or can I drop in when I have time?
I will book an appointment for the EVO next week for the other things we discussed.
Thanks,
Corinne

I go to Metropolitain every year, never had rust problems... The warranty is good as long as you go every year and its good against perforation from the inside. The new formula does not leak and does not smell as bad as before... We have a 4 years old civic and a 6 years old montana and both look new (When we wash them).

Although we are priced a bit higher than Metropolitan, they do not have the premium 2-step underside treatment. With our package we offer, we spray inhibitor fluid in all the door panels, trunk/hood compartments, and on the underside of the vehicle. We also apply a second product to the underside of the vehicle that is called 'coat & protect' which is a PREMIUM non-drip gel that ensures total protection underneath the vehicle. Oftentimes when you have just oil sprayed on the underside of the vehicle, it has a tendency to wash off. The other thing I should mention is that usually our competitors will get vehicles done in 20 minutes, which is certainly not enough time to do a proper application - whereas we spend about 1 hour and 20 minutes on each vehicle to ensure it is completely protected.

Again, the NCMC member deal is $116.95+tax for a complete 2-step RustCheck treatment (on a car) with a FREE basic cleaning package (clean windows/dash, vacuum, exterior wash, tire dressing), and a FREE 180g can of RustCheck inhibitor fluid for use around the house/garage, etc.

Can I just drop in with the Sebring, or do I have to make an appointment? What are your hours?

We are open Mon-Fri 8am-6pm, and Sat 8am-4pm.

Corrine, I left you a voicemail Monday and one the other day regarding the Evo - maybe it would be easier if you just gave me a call at the store when you have a free minute - 613-830-3130. That way, we can make arrangements for both vehicles and get you booked in Cool

Ok, I will, this is my first day off so was unable to get back to you (12 hour shifts)...just waiting for two important work related calls, so I need to keep off the phone at this moment so I don't miss them. I"ll call this afternoon to set up the appointments.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a krown shop, military says krown works a bit better than RustCheck. See report here:
hxxp://pubs.drdc.gc.ca/PDFS/unc53/p526285.pdf

Took below from another forum:

Based on army research done in 1999:

"....In 1999, DSVPM requested QETE to evaluate CPCs for application to Canadian Army vehicles [8] [9].Seven CPCs (i.e., Rust Block, Dura Tech 2000, Dura Tech Plus, Rust Check, Krown T-40, #900 Rust Proofing Oil, and Fluid Film) were evaluated by QETE. It was found that only Krown T-40 met all the established property limits....."

New army tests done in 2006:

In a benign environment, the CPCs tested, performed equally well. In more severe environments,... Corrosion Free, Formula 3000 showed the most corrosion inhibition.

The 2006 test:
CPC............................................ Manufacturer
WD-40...................................... WD-40 Products (Canada) Ltd.
Corrosion Free, Formula 3000.... Canadian Tire
ACF-50 ..................................... ..Lear Chemical Research Corp.
LPS-2 ..........................................LPS Laboratories
Krown T-40 .................................Krown Body Maintenance
Rustcheck Dripless ......................Rust Check Corp.
Corrosion Block ...........................Lear Chemical Research Corp.
Boeshield T-9 ..............................PMS Products Inc.
Rustcheck Red ............................Rust Check Corp.

The major benefit to using Rust Check vs. anything else is that we have a secondary product called Coat and Protect which is a non-drip clear gel that we apply to the underside of the vehicle (including brake/fuel lines, floor pan, wheel wells, etc) which ensures longer-lasting protection. The problem with a lot of products offered by our competitors is that they are single-stage applications and tend to wear away quickly. I've had clients in our shop who have had their vehicles sprayed by competitors (one starts with a K, one starts with an M) and the vehicles were completely bone dry on the underside... not good.

We also offer a lifetime warranty against rust/corrosion if the vehicle is 3 model years or newer.

Don't forget, NCMC members also get a special deal on the Rust Check (from $109.95 which includes an exterior wash and dry, and interior vacuum). I know with Krown they usually wash vehicles with a dirty brush on a stick which will most certainly cause swirl marks in your paint.

My Evo will never set it's tires in a Krown shop after my experience with Krown and my Sebring. It might not neccesarily be the product, and maybe more the 16 year olds applying it missing key spots, and drilling holes in wheel wells where they should not be drilling either....it's an assembly line hit or miss process at Krown and it's equivalent. If you want your car to be looked after with care to detail, then take it to Lux (IMO).
