Insurance for modded cars?
Hi all, I'm buying an Evo IX SE on the 17th of december and I've started looking for insurance for it, and so far both La Personnelle (my current insurer) and Belair Direct have told me that they won't insure the Evo because it's too heavily modded. Obviously I could just not declare the mods, however in the event that I have an accident and that they discover that I had mods they didn't know about, they don't pay for anything at all, including civil liability, which can easily get into 6-digit figures, so that's a fairly big risk to take.
So, those of you with modded rides, with who are you insured and have you declared your mods? Any suggestions on who to call (besides a broker, which I'll be doing tomorrow).

I don't know for the mods, because my car is not really modded, but I got a pretty good price with promutuel assurances...

Don't tell them ... and don't crash
Johnson Insurance is *very* competitive- I'm switching to them in a day or two from Bel Air.

Johnson doesn't appear to insure in Quebec :S
I've been getting some other suggestions from friends though, we'll see if they turn out better.

the last thing u wanna do is lie to ur inssurance company, thats a perfect way to get absolutly nothing for ur car if something happens.
Re: Insurance for modded cars?
yeah if your car is modded dont lie thats the worst thing you can do in case of an accident

And if you do lie, always make sure that every accident is the other guy's fault!

Re: Insurance for modded cars?
You have to claim everything or they void your insurance (and they will look to do that if they can). They will come back and sue you for what they paid out...not worth the risk.
Insurance for moded cars is outrageous, and just for minor mods they double the insurance rate I'm noticing. Unfortunately, your age, sex, type of car with mods, price of the car, makes you a high risk for insurance companies and they will make you pay through the teeth.
You may need to remove some of the mods to get insurance. Ask them which ones will allow you to be insured and then ask that to each company. You do know that as soon as that car is in an accident, they will look for the mods...it's the type of car that people mod, right?
Sorry to not have better news for you...
